Eurovision 2006

I've done some more work on the Final poll.  Hope you enjoy analysing the results!

The Final Poll

I'm scared - very scared.  If this is anything to go by, Lithuania have a good chance of winning the whole thing.  I certainly wouldn't discount them, but I hope the more conservative voters give it a wide berth.

Greece is still very popular, coming in in a surprise second place at the last minute.  Turkey has jumped in the past matter of minutes to favourite.  Lithuania are coming in third.  I reckon we could see something similar, but as I've predicted, Sweden, Norway, B&H and Germany are all in with a chance.

At 7pm, just one hour before the final, 162 people had voted. I took a note of the full results.

Here they are:

1. Turkey 18.5%
2. Greece 14.8%
3. Lithuania 13%
4. Finland 8%
5. Romania 6.2%
6. Bosnia & Herzegovina 6.2%
7. Sweden 4.3%
8. Malta 3.7%
9. Russia 3.1%
10. Armenia 3.1%

Germany and Ireland are just outside with 2.5% of the vote each.

If the poll's right - I've predicted the right winner with Turkey, so fingers crossed :o) You can see all the results here:

The Semi-Final Poll

The Semi-Final Poll reeled in 156 votes and suggests Belgium will win the Semi hands down - with a massive 22.4% of the vote.  It also suggests Ireland and Cyprus have a significant chance of qualification - have a look at the top 12:

1. Belgium 22.4%
2. Cyprus 9.6%
2. Iceland 9.6%
4. Turkey 8.3%

Andorra are the only country to sit with 0% of the vote.  Interestingly, though joint 7th in the Semi-Final favourites, Ireland come 2nd to Lithuania in the least favourite Semi-Final songs...

Interestingly, Slovenia makes it into the top ten Semi-Finalists in the overall poll, but not in the Semi-Final poll.

So what are the Je t'adore, Eurovision! polls saying?

In relation to tonight (the Semi-Final), after some close analysis, the polls suggest something like this:

1. Belgium - hands down qualifier
2. Turkey - popular in both polls
3. Sweden - a big surprise if it didn't, regardless of what the polls say.
4. Russia - 6th in the Semi poll and 8th in the overall poll - very sturdy favourite
5. Iceland - popular in both polls
6. Bosnia & Herzegovina - just makes the top ten in the Semi-Final poll and just sits 6th of the Semi-Finalists in the overall poll.
7. Finland - again, very steady - 8th and 7th respectively.
8. Now it gets difficult - Slovenia didn't make the Semi-Final poll top ten, but are sitting at 8th out of the Semi-Finalists in the overall poll.  Cyprus come second in the Semi-Final poll and 10th in the overall out of the Semi-Finalists.  I'm suggesting Cyprus.
9. Slovenia
10. Macedonia - just in top 10 in Semi-Final poll, just outside it in overall poll.

And sitting outside the top ten we have Armenia, Estonia, Ireland and maybe even Bulgaria.  So, are these 15 countries our possible qualifiers? We'll find out in less than 3 hours!!
