A little bit of history…
Portugal’s history at Eurovision is rather woeful, never managing anything higher than 6th. One of the personal highlights of Portuguese entries for me was their song ‘Keep
The Dream Alive’, but unfortunately, came 22nd out of 26. When
the Semi-Final was introduced in 2004, they were favourite to finish last, but despite failing to qualify, Sofi gave a great
performance. Last year saw one of Portugal’s
best attempts yet. They song ‘Amar’ was a great mix of Portuguese
and English, but the performers just didn’t pull it off on the night and it all came across a bit of an un-choreographed
mess. So yet again we find Portugal
in the Semi-Final… will they ever make it through?
Singer & Song
NonStop Coisas De Nada
LOL!!
What did they think they were doing when they sent this?!?! As much as
I really do like it, the girls really can’t sing – never mind attempt English lyrics. One particular line going – ‘I’ll make you stop thinking sad things for a while’
sounds ‘I’ll make you stop sinking sad sings for a while’ – I really hope they can sort it out. The song is entertaining, it’s a jolly, upbeat and catchy number, but I’m
just not impressed at all with what I’m hearing from the girls in Non-Stop. Unless
they get their act together, Portugal
could be looking at a ‘nul pointer’.
Prediction
Possibly last: 20th-23rd
in Semi-Final
There is an outside chance this could do well,
it is a nice song, but I have little faith in the girls talents and I don’t think they’ll be able to pull this
off. It’s a possible nul-pointer, but someone will like them – I
actually wouldn’t be surprised to see the UK or Ireland give this a few points, but any song needs to be looking at
picking up at least 80 points if they want to make it through, sorry Portugal, you’re just going to have to wait another
year!
Prediction after Semi-Final
After a surprisingly good vocal, the
inevitable happened. see you in the Semi again next year Portugal!
