A little bit of history…
Slovenia are another country that haven’t had a great run at Eurovision. In 11 years, they’ve only reached their top position (7th) twice. Interestingly, Slovenia are the only south-eastern European
country (apart from Bulgaria) to not make
the Final since the new format was introduced. Their success of late hasn’t
been great, managing 7th in 2001, 13th in 2002 and 23rd in 2003. they then proceeded to notch up 21st out of 22 in the 2004 Semi-Final, saved from the bottom
by Switzerland’s ‘nul points’. 2005 saw Slovenia
enter a great entry, but even with a great song, performance and draw, they still failed to qualify, coming 12th. Just what do Slovenia
have to do to get through?
Singer & Song
Anzej Dezan Mr. Nobody
The English version of this entry is pleasantly
surprising, and really is rather good. Anzej is a handsome young man, and a first
class performer, so it’s sure to be one to remember. The song is rather
broadway like, but still fits in quite nicely to the Eurovision theme and should stand out from the other songs in the contest.
Prediction
Unlikely Qualifier: 17th-21st
in Semi-Final
Despite the singer and song combination being
so good, I’m just not so optimistic about this. Look at what happened last
year, great song, great performer, and a good draw near the end of the show – and they still failed to qualify. If it’s anything to go by, the 3rd position in the running order
where Slovenia are slotted in doesn’t
look too good. If it were any country, I’d be happily convinced, but I
think Slovenia will be in the Semi-Final
4 years in a row, failing to qualify for 3 of them.
Prediction after Semi-Final
Slovenia failed to qualify.
