LT United
We Are The Winners

A little bit of history...

Lithuania, though a relatively new nation at Eurovision, have by far one of the worst records - they certainly haven't had the same luck as their baltic neighbours Estonia and Latvia.  Their first entry managed a wonderful 'nul points' in 1994, and their next attempt in 1999 could only manage 20th place out of 23.  Relegation in 2000 led them to the 2001 Contest, where they achieved their best result - 13th.  They qualified to 2002 where they notched up one from the bottom of the leader board, were relegated in 2003 and now have been given the opportunity to participate every year due to the Semi-Final.  Despite this, they've still had no luck, a woeful song in 2004 saw them fail to qualify and then to round off their tragic results they finished last last year.  Ironically - it was probably one of their best entries and picked up 17 points - a rather impressive sum for last place.  Nonetheless we see Lithuania in the Semi-Final again.  Just what do they have to do?!

Singer & Song
LT United We Are The Winners

Well they certainly did not have to do this.  I think this song is absolute tripe!  It sounds something not short of what you would expect a bunch of footballers to come up with at a match.  Though the group, LT United, guarantee a lively performance, I still think it's cringeworthy, not something I would enjoy at all.  There's the idea of entering a 'novelty' entry - but look at Sylvia Night - it's fun and light-hearted, and the song can be appreciated - unlike this mess.  I can't see this doing well, but I would like to see Lithuania stick at Eurovision, I'm sure they will do much better someday.

Prediction
Won't qualify: 19th-23rd

I just don't see it happening, nor do I want it to.  This is one of two songs (Albania being the other) that I really don't want so see qualify.  I'd be happy with anything else but this.  I can see what Lithuania are getting at, and I do praise them on their merits, but they've just got horribly lost in a bunch of terrible results and have gone the wrong way about doing well at Eurovision.  Good luck though, I think you'll need it!

Prediction after Semi-Final
17th-19th in Final

I'm cross.  Very cross.  How this got a place in the Final over Iceland, Slovenia, Estonia and Belgium is beyond me.  LT United did perform it well - I'll give them that - they did make the best of what it was.  So, are they the winners of Eurovision? Scarily, maybe, but I hope the standard of other songs in the contest makes this look silly and out of place in the Final - making the voters go for the classier entries.  Hopefully, Lithuania's efforts will be shunned, and they'll be one of the worst Semi-Finalists regarding placing.  I'm predicting something like 17th-19th.

Review of the Eurovision Performance

Hmmmm... Lithuania... We Are The Winners... I've given myself several months to get over this one and can now attempt a more objective review of what happened on stage.  LT United certainly gave a memorable, interesting and lively performance.  The comic value of the song worked well - the guys didn't seem like they cared too much about how they did and were very easy going about it - ensuring they enjoyed themselves onstage.  It was entertaining - generally - if not silly, and the song didn't sound terrible.  But we must remember that it was very much a novelty entry and I still think that if a song like this won that the contest wouldn't have been about the music, so thank goodness it didn't quite manage the very eclectic sounding top 5, leaving the novelty entry outside of what really matters - the music.  As for my prediction - wrong!!

this is what i call a lame song.I think this poor people are narcisist...It remind me of polly,a character of kids of 402. Very funny the cartoons...The girl was obsessed of spoons and lithuania(She was lithuanian). Now i see this a national thing...Bleah!

Inga from Latvia

Yes. You admit that this is only your opinion, but sometimes I have a feeling that you are little bit over 20 (maybe even 20), because your predictions compared to Graham's site are...how could I say it...trivial. You first have to analyse song for example from live national selection (if it there was one) National selections, not just hearing song. You mostly focus on songs as such, but you must see how they would look live on stage. That's for the future :)

REPLY FROM SIMON: Nice guess, I'm 20, but I'm not sure what my age has to do with this... :o) Surely it would have been more trivial to predict Lithuania as qualifiers and top ten in the final than to predict Turkey as winners - even if I was wrong! :o)

Lietuva from Lithuania

That was great!!

Passer by, presumably from Lithuania

well, Simon, you're still young and I hope this project of yours (I'm talking about this site) will teach you the most important lesson, the thing, that makes a man clever and not dumb - there are no universal opinions. your's is no exception. as we can see, your opinion regarding Lithuanian entry (as well as Turkich misunderstanding of a performance) was in minority all around Europe. good luck ant try to think outside your small box next time, you sorely lack this quality.

REPLY FROM SIMON: If you look at the predictions part of my home page you'll find that I have already recognised that my predictions are entirely 'fictional' - they're my own opinion based on guesses of who I think will end up where based on the song, voters, etc.  I don't expect everyone to agree with me at all and I don't expect to be 100% correct, I just do this as I love Eurovision and I wanted to have a new hobby.  Sorry for offending you, but that was not my intention.

I think you may be wrong on this one. Yes, its not good song but it is funny and I think the voting public will like that.

REPLY FROM SIMON: You could be right - but I hope you're wrong!
