Finland will be represented by scary rockers Lordi singing Hard Rock Hallelujah.

Hard Rock Hallelujah

A little bit of history...

Finland haven't had much luck at all in Eurovision, with their highest position being just 6th.  In the 1990's they constantly faced relegation, and they managed to drag this stigma into the new millennium with them.  Despite resonable entries, they haven't done that well at all.  On a higher note, the Semi-Final has given Finland the opportunity to participate every year, but they've not got much to show for it.  My advice to Finland?... follow Europe into the year 2006, you need a really good song, scorcher of a performance, and something that can appeal across the boards...

Singer & Song
Lordi Hard Rock Hallelujah

...And they've done just that!  Hard rockers Lordi are bringing a very good Finnish entry this year, with an extremely different performance to anything we've ever seen before at Eurovision.  Lordi will be appearing on stage as a 'monster group', disguised as anything but humans, something that's sure to catch the eye and keep the performance in mind.  The song is good, with a nice feel to it, despite the stage presence of the performers, so surely Finland are looking towards the Final, aren't they?

Prediction
Likely Qualifier: 8th-12th in Semi, 14th-18th in Final

I'm sure Finland have what it takes to qualify this year, but I wouldn't expect a high top ten placing in the Semi, and I wouldn't expect to see them directly qualified to the 2007 Final - far from it actually.  The problem is that many poeple won't like this at all.  The people that watch Eurovision tend to be people who enjoy light, bubblegum, Europop music - not hard rock stuff - and i doubt these people will vote for it.  That's why I'm not predicting a high Semi-Final placing to make it through, nonetheless, they do have what it takes so I'd be surprised to not see them make it through, even if it only is by the skin of their teeth.

Prediction after Semi-Final
7th-9th in Final

After an amazing performance, Lordi rightly so qualified.  I'm sure they were one of the top on their way through.  They were well presented and the pyrotechnics looked great - especially the wings that rose from Mr. Lordi's back!  I'm more enthusiastic about this than I was, so I'd say a top ten placing and direct entry to the 2007 Final is on the cards here for Finland.

Review of the Eurovision Performance

Well finally Finland win the Eurovision song Contest - and they manage to bring it back to Western Europe for the first time since 2000. Everything about the Finnish entry was great - the singing and the song worked surprisingly well, and the pyrotechnics were awesome! It was all thoroughly enjoyable, and despite being rock music I actually found myself voting for it! I just hope this victory doesn't mean that the Eurovision Song Contest will turn into a rock song contest - the primary reason why I like it so much is because of the easy-going, upbeat, happy pop music, and I think it would be a shame for that to change. Looking at my prediction, it was hard to say whether I was right or wrong, so a bit of both is what I've come up with. I suggested Finland would qualify, though not with the amount of points they did. When they got to the Final I said 7th-9th, and they definately made top ten there as well. I also said after the Semi that I was sure they'd be one of the top on their way through, and they were. So although I didn't predict them as winners, I did say they'd manage alot of stuff that they did, so I guess that counts as a right and wrong, doesn't it?!

Charlie Bru from Malta

This song was quite good,... but they didn't only do well cos of the music but I pretty much think it was because of their appearance and costumes.

Rumour has it around many eurovision sites that the Finn hackers managed to 'vote' for their song through all other countries by hacking the televoting...after all Nokia is a Finn giant....According to sources EBU got a sniff on that but they will not act upon since they will be the laughing stock but will keep an open eye for the future...God I miss the 70's and early 80's that was the real Eurovision:)

REPLY FROM SIMON: Or it could just be that Hard Rock Hallelujah was actually Europe's favourite song, no? :o)
