A Little Bit of History...
Spain haven’t had a great record at Eurovision winning just once in 1968 and then
drawing first place with three other countries in 1969, only to not be declared the overall winner. Recently, their run hasn’t been bad, 6th in 2001, 7th in 2002, 8th
in 2003 and 10th in 2004. Unfortunately, it all came to a rather large
slump last year, when Spain finished 21st with what I thought was the
rather good ‘Brujeria’ by Son de Sol. In 2006 they entered Las Ketchup with
a terrible song, placing appropriately well, and in 2007, despite sending what I thought was a top 5 contender, only managed
20th place.

It seems Spain have given up on Eurovision. Either that or they’re so desperate for a top ten finish that they’ve gone with the current
trend towards novelty entries. The thing is, this doesn’t have the sheer
X factor that Lordi had in 2006, and there’s nothing camp, glittery or camptastic like Verka last year. I don’t think this is very good, and I doubt it will work for Spain. Maybe they’ll come up
with something better next year.
