Spain will be represented by the infamous Las Ketchup with Bloody Mary - A cocktail made with tomatoes...

Las Ketchup
Bloody Mary

A little bit of history…

Spain haven’t had a great record at Eurovision winning just once in 1968 and then drawing first place with three other countries in 1969, only to not be declared the overall winner.  Recently, their run hasn’t been bad, 6th in 2001, 7th in 2002, 8th in 2003 and 10th in 2004.  Unfortunately, it all came to a rather large slump last year, when Spain finished 21st with what I thought was the rather good ‘Brujeria’ by Son de Sol.  Despite their misfortunate result last year, it doesn’t really matter as Spain are a member of the ‘Big 4’ and qualify directly to the Final anyway.

Singer & Song

Las Ketchup Bloody Mary

After sending Las Ketchup soundalikes last year, Spain have decided to enter the real thing this year, in the shape of the 3 ketchup sisters, plus the youngest family addition to the group (making the grand total of four group members).  If this does well, it can solely be for Las Ketchup’s popularity as a group rather than for the song or their ability to perform.  The song – though something of a grower, isn’t really that good at all and on first listen (the position most voters across Europe will be in) the song won’t impress.  On top of this, when people hear Las Ketchup, they’ll be expecting to see three girls (not four) singing an upbeat number, similar to the Ketchup Song, that has a funky dance and catchy chorus.  Like me, they’ll be sorely disappointed.  On top of this, going by the official performance of the song – where the girls mimed (badly), the presentation won’t be anything spectacular, and nor will be the singing (assuming they can sing live).  I just don’t think this is as good as Son de Sol, sorry!

Prediction

Possibly last: 20th-24th

I do think this is a contender for ‘nul points’ – the only thing saving them is the Ketchup Song – which most people are sick of now anyway.  It’s bland and I just can’t see the song giving rise to a memorable or in any way good performance – no dance rountine, no gimmicks, no nothing.  If they pull through as t.A.T.u did – solely because they’re famous then fair play to them, but I’m not convinced – I think this is one of the worst songs of the contest.

Prediction after Semi-Final

Possibly last: 22nd-24th

This is still as poor as ever - possibly last.

I really like this entry and I strongly disagree with you in saying that this is one of the worst songs of the year. Clearly not everybody thinks the same, as it is placed 14th in Graham Soult's web page, were actual people give points to each song. I think that shows some of your mistakes don't you?

REPLY FROM SIMON: No need to get worked up Rodrigo! It's all a bit of fun and I just don't think the Spannish entry has what it takes - maybe they'll prove me wrong!

Rodrigo from Mexico

Ok, I wasn't getting worked up, I just think your predictions are a little out there. Also I want to say that I don't think Spain will win, but they will surely do a lot better than the 23rd place that you have given them. Regarding your new predicitons, I would so love to bet with you on that first place you gave to Turkey!!! Greece WILL be the winner.

Venla from Finland

I liked this alot! Of course Lordi was best but you were second! When I
lived in italy I listened to asereje. It was my favourite song and we even did a
dance to it and preformmed it!!
