A Little Bit of History...

Slovenia are another country that haven’t had a great run at Eurovision.  In 12 years, they’ve only reached their top position (7th) twice.  Last year was the first time Slovenia made it through from the Semi-Final since the new format was introduced in 2004, when they finished one from the bottom with just 5 points.  The record since then wasn't great either, coming close in 12th place in 2005, but then missing out by a wider margin in 2006.  Despite qualifying in 2007, they didn't manage the top ten in the Final, so hopes are high for this year to hope they can at least secure another top ten result.

So all those Croatian divas moved to Slovenia!  From I heard it, the Slovenian entry has been one of my faves this year, and it’s really not that hard to see why.  Rebekah’s a great performer, providing a sound vocal on an upbeat, contemporary track, which should make a big enough immediate impact to pick up votes.  I do think the song would be better performed in English though, this being the only thing that could hold it back.  It’s not as good as last year’s attempt, which I think most fans have been quick to point out, but it’s still good, and I’m hoping that as one of the best songs in its semi, it should make it through to the Final.  I certainly hope so, otherwise I won’t get seeing it live in Belgrade and will have to make do with my DVD!
