My experience of Italian music has been good, I’ve really enjoyed listening
to what the Italian entries in online song contests have to offer, something which is usually nice, happy, rousing, acoustic
pop music, so I was disappointed to see the delegation for San Marino (who are practically representing Italy) choose something alternative and well, boring! It’s not a bad song, but it doesn’t really go anywhere, or make any huge impact, and with a
lack of neighbours I shan’t be expecting big things for the first San Marine entry. The band seem enthusiastic enough, and it’s all very professional, but I think the delegation being a bit
bold sending something like this on their first attempt. It’s almost as
if they’re trying to make a statement: ‘This is good, modern music, and if it doesn’t do well it’s
only a reflection on the competition, not the song’. They had a wealth of great tunes to choose from, so it’s
disappointing that they went for something so unusual for Eurovision, maybe they’ll be a bit more ‘Eurovision’
friendly next year.
