A Little Bit of History...
Romania started with a rather bad record at
Eurovision but recently have seen things pick up. In 2000 they finished 17th
with what wasn’t a great entry, in 2001 they were relegated and a comeback in 2002 saw them achieve their highest result
– 9th, from then, entries were more recognised with 10th in 2003, and disappointing 18th in 2004. 2005 was when Romania really got their chance to shine
with their song ‘Let Me Try’. Everything was right about it, great
song, amazing singer and fantastic performance. Romania won the Semi-Final and came third in the Final – their highest result
to date. So the stakes were high for Mihai Tristariu in 2006, who managed 4th,
again qualifying Romania to the 2007 Final, where they sent the worst novelty entry of the evening and finsihed 13th overall.
Singer & Song
Nico & Vlad Pe-O Margine De Lume
Romania’s 2008 attempt couldn’t be more different
from what we’ve seen from them in the past 3 years – with two very successful dance entries and a not so successful
novelty entry. Despite this, their attempt at an Italian, nearly operatic duet
has come up trumps and is a really good entry. Performed effectively with two
singers and a pianist at the national selection, everything came across as it should and the focus was placed on the performers,
who both sung beautifully. The song’s great – catchy and emotional,
performed intimately by two very professional people. I have no doubt this song
should do well – if it doesn’t get through on the public vote I’d be very surprised if the juries don’t
pick up on the sheer perfection of this great big Eurovision ballad!
