Eurovision 2006

Hoping to continue their success from last year, Hungary are sending Czesy, another established Hungarian female singer, with her sophisticated ballad, 'Candlelight'.

A Little Bit of History...

Hungary appeared at Eurovision 4 times between 1994 and 1998 - and only achieved one impressive result (4th in 1994) consequently disappearing from the Eurovision map until 2005.  In 2005 they had a great song, and qualified easily within the top five in the Semi.  Unfortunately, the early draw must have damaged their chances, and Hungary finished just outside the qualifying zone.  Due to financial restrictions they missed the 2006 contest and came back by popular demand in 2007, finishing a very impressive 2nd place in the Semi-Final, but only 9th overall.

I never really knew what to think of the Hungarian entry on first listen, but now, it’s in my top five.  Csezy sings a beautiful ballad (some may think slightly dull, but I think it’s great) and she carries it really well.  The lyrics flow so smoothly into one another, and that’s what I think makes a great ballad.  Being central European, votes can go either way with this one, but like Switzerland, I’d say they have a strong chance of sneaking into everyone’s top ten and picking up enough points to make it through.  I hope they do, it’s one of my favourite Eurovision ballads I’ve ever heard.  Beautiful.
