A Little Bit of History...
Georgia made an impressive debut at Eurovision last year, qualifying from the Semi Final in 8th place and finishing 12th
overall.
Singer & Song
Diana Gurtskaya Peace Will Come
From I first heard it,
Georgia was one of my favourite entries in this year’s Eurovision. It was brought out at a stage when I wasn’t really sure if there were that many songs in the contest
that I liked, and I took an instant shine to this one. The song has been surprisingly
underrated by fan polls and book makers, where I’m almost certain it’s a qualifier – or at least a song
worthy of qualification. The stage performance of ‘Peace Will Come’
was rather over done, and Diana didn’t look well on stage at all. In fact,
I was fairly sure that had she have been able to see what was going on around her, she would have changed it. This brings me on to my second point – surprisingly, Georgia
hasn’t come under much scrutiny for trying to gain the European sympathy vote, due to Diana’s blindness. I’m glad this hasn’t happened, as I believe the power of Diana’s
vocal and the anthematic feel to the song make this a worth contender in it’s own right.
A great song from Georgia, one
I’m looking forward to seeing and one which I hope will manage to qualify for the Final.
