Still failing to realise that it was a gimmick which brought Finland to victory in 2006, the Finns are determined to
send heavy rock music to Eurovision, this year in the form of Terasbetoni with song 'Missa Miehet Rastastaa'.

A Little Bit of History...
After years and years of waiting and coping with dismal results Finland FINALLY managed to bring the Eurovision kicking
and screaming to Helsinki in 2007. Until 2006, Finland hadn't had much luck at all in Eurovision, with their highest
position being just 6th. In the 1990's they constantly faced relegation, and they managed to drag this stigma into the
new millennium with them. Despite resonable entries, they haven't done that well at all. On a higher note, the
Semi-Final has given Finland the opportunity to participate every year, but they didn't have much to show for it until Lordi
reigned victorious. In 2007, they finished higher than any Western European country in the Final, but were still in
the low teens!

It seems, rather unfortunately,
that the Finns have failed to realise that their victory in 2006 was down to the gimmick, great pyrotechnics and an all round
impressive and different stage show – not the song.As much as I quite
like ‘Missa Miehet Reisasta’, I don’t see how it’s all that much different from the CzechRepublic’s entry last year, and without regular voting neighbours,
I don’t think this will have what it needs to make an impact. For what
it is though, I think it’s a good rock song, I just don’t think it will do well at Eurovision without any major
gimmicks.
