No, No, Never

A little bit of history...

Germany have a rather insignificant history at Eurovision winning just once in 1982.  Their entries of late have seen very different results.  In 1999, 2000, and 2001 they had a string of top ten results, then in 2002 were one of the hot favourites, but failed to impress.  2003 saw Germany enter the wonderful 'Let's Get Happy', but even this failed to do as well as expected.  2004 saw them enter the smoothe number of the night, and they acheived accoringly well, but 2005 saw a great turn in fortunes, gathering all those bad positions up and cumulating them towards a final, horrid position - finishing last.  Nonetheless, being a member of the Big 4 it didn't really matter that much, and Germany find themselves directly qualified to the 2006 Final... again.

Singer & Song
Texas Lightning No, No, Never

This is another one of my big faves this year, I really, really like it.  It has a definate country feel, while remaining 'poppy' enough to fit in with Eurovision.  Texas Lightning gave a fantastic performance at their national selection and the song is instantly infectious.  It's certainly one I can't stop singing.  Surely Germany stand a chance this year, do they not?

Prediction
Possible Winner: 1st-3rd

I really want to see this win and I really think it can - so place the 'Dark Horse Alert' on this one.  They have a rather unfortunate draw, but the songs so refreshing that it should stick in people's minds, even after the review of all 24 songs.  Germany will certainly do better than last year - if this came last it would be an absolute travesty.  I think it's one of those songs that regardless of it's representative country not being a popular one, could pull through against the odds.  Germany have my vote, and are my predicted Eurovision winners.

Prediction after Semi-Final
Possible Winner: 2nd-4th

I still think Germany stand a good chance of winning the thing - but I'm not as convinced as I was.  Coming early won't help this at all - much stronger competition from Ukraine and Turkey coming up later in the contest might mean this could get forgotten about by some.  I still think this has great potential to be top 5 and certainly could bring Eurovision to Hamburg/Berlin/Frankfurt.

Review of the Eurovision Performance

This really impressed me on the night, it maintained the genuine simplicity that made all fans like this so much in the first place yet Jane Comerford gave it an extra bit of sparkle to really make the song look and sound great.  This certainly was one of my favourites, but I'm afraid when it came to the voting fame and, er... gimmikery kind of ruled the day over simple, pretty and pink.  I think the Germans can be proud and shouldn't be discouraged, they entered, in my opinion, what certainly was one of the more enjoyable and deserving performances of the evening and Texas Lightning did a wonderful job, so good on them.  As for my prediction... I was very much so wrong, as mid-teens doesn't really come that close at all to nearly winning!  Oh well, I still think they could have!

Loved this song. I really liked the voice. Very, very, very, very, very disappointing result though but then again that's life. I say well done and that they gave a wonderful performance

REPLY FROM SIMON: Totally agree with you Nax, Germany were totally robbed.  This was one of my big faves and I was very disappointed to see it do badly.
