A Little Bit of History...
The past seven years have only seen two good results for Cyprus, 5th in 2004 and 6th in 2002. Other years
they have found themselves in the low teens of the scoring. Cyprus are renowned in Eurovision for their favour to Greek
entries and vice versa. Each country is guaranteed the elusive "douze points" from the other, regardless of how good
or bad the songs are. Due to their lack of neighbours, Cyprus have difficulty scoring any other points, and therefore
need a strong entry to get recognised. When the Semi was first introduced, Cyprus stormed through with the wonderful
ballad from Lisa Andreas, which proved their last commendable result. Despite brilliant performances in both 2005 and
2006, Cyprus failed to achieve much when it came to scoring, and in 2007, a high risk, energetic fan favourite failed to make
it through once again.
Singer & Song
Evdokia Kadi Femme Fatale
Cyprus
is another one of those entries that we’ve been listening to since the beginning of the year. I’ve never thought it’s anything particularly special, although there is a rich, cultured flavour
to the Greek inspired track, incorporating an interesting bond-style theme to it. Evdokia
performs it well, with a good vocal and well-choreographed stage set up, and interesting style and approach. Not Cyprus’ best
attempt in my opinion, but not bad. Don’t see very big things – I
just wish they’d keep going for good pop songs or great big ballads like they have done in previous years.
