A Little Bit of History...

Croatia have had a rather misfortunate record in the past 4 years since the Semi-Final was introduced.  On the first two occasions they made it through to the Final comforatbly (with what I think have been poor entries), yet their fate in the Final seemed to take a turn, and on both occasions, just managed to miss out on the top ten placings.  Indeed, the only reason they qualified directly to the 2006 Final was due to Serbia & Montenegro's withdrawal; once there they came 13th, just missing out on the top half of the scoreboard, and in 2003, they had what I thought was a wonderful entry, with a funky song and good performance, but couldn't do better than 15th out of 26.  Most of their results do however seem consistent, either in the bottom of the top ten or just outside the top ten.  Their highest result is 4th, in both 1996 and 1999.  2007 however, saw one of their worst results finishing lower than all the Balkans bar Montenegro in 16ht place in the Semi.

On first hearing this, I was left asking ‘what on earth did Croatia do with all their fantabulous divas?’  Alas, they seem to have misplaced them, and instead we have to put up with this piece of tripe which pretends to be something from Italy – and I really don’t like it.  Not that I have anything against Italian music – I adore Switzerland’s entry, but this really doesn’t float my boat.  Yes there’s something catchy about it (irritatingly catchy) and it does have a bit of charm, but I don’t think this has what it takes to pick up points elsewhere than it’s neighbours, few of which are even present.  Croatia seem to think they’re breaking a Eurovision record sending the eldest person to grace the stage, but does anyone really care?! Perhaps if they tried to focus their record breaking attention elsewhere like, say, winning 8 times then there entries might be ever so slightly more credible.
