Having had a change of heart towards the traditional Balkan ballad, Bosnia & Herzegovina are sending extravagant

A Little Bit of History...
Still awaiting a victory, Bosnia & Herzegovina don't have that great a record at Eurovision. I personally
think their worst songs have done well and their better ones have done worse, but that's neither here nor there. Their
best result until 2006 (7th in 1999) was a far cry from their other string of really rather dire results, mostly
in the low to mid teens. In 2005 they had high hopes with their song by Feminnem, the only tribute to 50 years
of Eurovision, but could unfortunately notch up just 14th place, finding themselves in the Semi-Final of 2006. When
there, they pulled out all the Balkan stops and entered beautiful ballad by Hari mata Hari, securing a strong 2nd place in
the Semi and 3rd in the Final. In 2007, they sent another ballad, but with a poor draw they had to settle with finishing
just outside the top ten.

After having reviewed Bosnia
& Herzegovina’s entries over
the past few years, we must give them credit.2003 saw a great pop/rock stomper
in the form of ‘Ne Brini’, Deen brought us camp disco in 2004, Femminem gave us a wonderfully cheesey tribute
to 50 years of Eurovision in 2005, and in 2006 and 2007 they graced us with some rather tasteful Balkan ballads. This year, though going for something very contemporary and rather ‘out there’, I’m really
not sure what to make of the Bosnian entry. On a personal note, like many others,
I think it’s complete crap, but as a reviewer it’s difficult to say if there actually is something there which
makes it stand out as a unique Eurovision entry. It’s certainly something
very different, we’ve never heard anything like it, but I can’t help thinking it may be a bit too bizarre to do
well. It’s very Mika… in fact, it’s very Mika-taken-too-far.It’s uniqueness may just gather the lunatic cringe among Europe
and pick up enough votes to qualify but I would hope not as I think it would be a waste of a Eurovision slot, for which there
are other worthy contenders in the first Semi-Final.Not good by any standards
I don’t think, and I’ll happily avoid it.
