2008 sees Azerbaijan's debut, following in the footsteps of neighbours Armenia and Georgia.

 

 

If there’s a song that has been destined to stand out this year, this has been it.  While it doesn’t appeal across the board enough to be a winner, the Azerbaijan entry will be one of the most eye catching and visually impressive performances we’ve ever seen in Eurovision, especially if the promotional video and national performance are anything to go by.  The good vs. bad theme in the form of the devil and an angel really works and the pyrotechnics on stage a wonderfully exhilarating.  As for the song, well, it’s not the best in the competition, but it stand out and does have a likeable quality somewhere amidst the flamboyant vocals and over the top performance.  This is a great debut for Azerbaijan, and should pick up enough points to qualify and give the country a sound first result in Belgrade.
