A Little Bit Of History...

Lithuania, though a relatively new nation at Eurovision, have by far one of the worst records - they certainly haven't had the same luck as their baltic neighbours Estonia and Latvia.  Their first entry managed a wonderful 'nul points' in 1994, and their next attempt in 1999 could only manage 20th place out of 23.  Relegation in 2000 led them to the 2001 Contest, where they achieved their best result - 13th.  They qualified to 2002 where they notched up one from the bottom of the leader board, were relegated in 2003 and now have been given the opportunity to participate every year due to the Semi-Final.  Despite this, they've still had no luck, a woeful song in 2004 saw them fail to qualify and then to round off their tragic results they finished last in 2005.  Ironically - it was probably one of their best entries and picked up 17 points - a rather impressive sum for last place.  Last year, Lithuania entered novelty entry of the night 'We Are The Winners'.  It truly was a bad song performed well, and managed 6th place, qualifying Lithuania for this year's Final.

Singer & Song
4Fun Love Or Leave

After that tripe they sent last year it seems Lithuania have returned to form and are sending a sound song which may not make much of an impression.  ‘Love or Leave’, sang by 4Fun is a laid back, beautiful little Mediterranean sounding number which should sound and look great.  Now, while a laid back song that just chugged along nicely did the trick for Ireland last year, this just isn’t as strong in my opinion, and although it would be nice to see Lithuania do well with something as pleasant as this, I don’t think it will shine amidst the competition – although I really would like it to.  It’s pleasant, but I just don’t think that’s enough.

Prediction
Grand Final: Contender for Last 22nd-24th

Charming and inoffensive hasn't worked in recent years in Eurovision.  In 2004 Cyprus had a lovely ballad, as did Malta in 2005 - but both were powerful and the performers lit up the stage with that elusive sparkle.  This, unfortunately doesn't have what it takes, but I would love to see it do well.

Prediction after Semi-Final
Bottom Few, Contender for Last: 22nd - 24th

I'd love to see this do well, but it's likely it will be swamped by bigger songs.  Inoffensive just doesn't tend to work at Eurovision.

Review of Eurovision Performance

Let’s face it, nobody expected great things of this, and while the presentation was nice and the lead lady sang well and with emotion, it was nothing special, so I guess 21st place was to be expected.  As for my prediction they managed slightly better, coming 1 place higher than 22nd-24th, so I’m calling that a close!
