A Little Bit Of History...
Armenia debuted in Eurovision last year and entered a very strong song achieving a very impressive result (6th in the
Semi, 8th in the Final). Despite what I felt were poor performance, Armenia find themselves directly qualified for this
year's Final.
Singer & Song
Hayko Anytime You Need
Oh dear goodness – another boring
male Balkan sounding ballad that sounds even worse when sung in English. Not
a fan of this at all, it’s boring, it’s unauthentic, and it’s a real waste of space in this Final. Not a positive thing to say about this at all, sorry Armenia!!
Prediction
Grand Final: Near the Bottom 19th-21st
Neighbours will give them points in the same way they did last year, but there's absolutley nothing on this good earth
that can save Armenia from finishing in the bottom half. The song is woeful - a sad pastiche of an inauthentic balkan
ballad.
Prediction after Semi-Final
Bottom Few: 19th - 21st
No change - horrifically dull (although I don't think it will quite match Albania!) Wouldn't expect to see this
go much further than the high teens.
Review of Eurovision Performance
Out of all the countries that we expected
to do well this year, this was probably one of the least favoured, so came as a huge surprise when it actually fared well
when it came to the voting. Political votes from neighbours seriously helped
this one get where it did, however, in retrospect this could be a bit unfair as Hayko did give a strong, almost flawless vocal
performance. The set up on stage was beautiful too, with the read tree flying
white flags. To compliment the vocal and setup, Armenia did have a great draw, which I’m sure propelled them that little
bit further than they maybe deserved to go. Nonetheless, Armenia took 8th place, just a point behind Greece
(interestingly, last year Greece were
one point behind them) and my prediction is wrong yet again!
