A little bit of history...
This is Bulgaria' second year at Eurovision, and they really can't do much worse than their first attempt with 19th out
of 25, can they?
Singer & Song
Mariana Popova Let Me Cry
The answer to that would be a maybe. It's a hard one to call. I personally like the song, it's a very different
type of Eastern ballad. Mariana should give a good performance, but the song just doesn't have that sparkle that I think
will make people vote for it. Unfortunately, the male vocals on the song tend to tear it appart round the bridge - and
I personally think this ruins a rather good song, maybe they can do something about it for Eurovision?
Prediction
A hard one to call - anything from high teens to last in Semi
This could be last, but it could do a shock and make it through. It's no winner and I would be surprised if
it makes the final. My predictions table places it at 14th, which I think's a fair placing. Some will absolutely
hate it - particularly the male vocal, and others will think it's OK. I doubt very much that there exists many people
who love it. The songs up in the cursed 2nd place - a position from which no one has ever qualified from or won in 50
years of Eurovision. As I said I don't think it has that sparkle or appeal necessary for qualification, sorry Bulgaria!
Prediction after Semi-Final
After a surprisingly good performance, Bulgaria failed to qualify.
Review of the Eurovision Performance
I got a pleasant surprise watching this - particularly when it came to the male vocal. At the beginning Mariana
was a bit shakey, but she really made up for it when she hit the chorus - she sang with energy and emotion, and her voice
was much more powerful than I had expected. The dancers were well behaved and moved with the song, and backing singers
performed wonderfully, so surely this deserved more than 36 points and 17th place, no?! As for my prediction: I did
say anywhere from high teens to last - and on the table I had it in at 14th - so sticking with 14th I guess we could say that's
a close, no?! ;o)
