A Little Bit Of History...
Andorra made their debut in 2004 when the Semi-Final was introduced, and they haven't had much luck. In 2004, 2005
and 2006 they had great songs, but the ability to sing and perform accordingly seemed to escape all of the entries, and Andorra
find themselves in the Semi for a fourth yeat on the trot.
Singer & Song
Anonymous Salvem A Mon (Save The World)
In a huge shift from the norm, Andorra
have chosen to send punk rock group Anonymous to Helsinki
singing ‘Salvem A Mon’ (Save The World). This won’t be a fan
favourite (in fact, it isn’t a fan favourite) but the song is a strong one – catchy, upbeat and very different
from everything else in the competition. The song’s sung in English
and Catalan – and is a pleasantly surprising blend – not sounding clunky or out of place. There is a ‘rock cringe’ this year, but out of
all the rock songs in it, this is certainly one of the more fun ones, and the song contains a positive message. There’s also a big fanbase across Europe for this type of music
– but it may not pick up Balkan votes (which are usually very much needed). I
like it, and I’m sure others will, and for a change, I think Andorra are 100% in with a dead cert chance this year –
I’ll certainly be very surprised to see this fare as badly as other Andorran entries.
Prediction
Semi-Final: Possible Qualifiers 9th-11th
Grand Final: May Get Lost 15th-17th
With a fresher rock tune than most in it this year, I think Andorra are in with a better chance than ever.
It's hard to say how well this will do as they've only ever been supported by Spain, but this should just make it through
to the Final. When there, it's difficult to say if it will maintain a sound placing or get lost amidst other songs.
So I'd say Andorra are more likely to find themselves in the 2008 Semi than not.
Prediction after Semi-Final
Another of the more deserving entries that failed to make it through was Andorra.
Review of Eurovision Performance
Andorra was another of my favourite performances of the evening. They offered something very contemporary and catchy, not a far cry from the likes of Busted or McFly. The performance was appropriate and although the vocal wasn’t the best, I was
disappointed to see this fail to make it through. Nonetheless I predicted 9th-11th
and this came 12th, so I have another close under my belt!
